When done correctly, weightlifting is great for your back, but you should most likely focus on low-impact activities for at least a few months. There are dozens of popular low-impact exercises to choose from including swimming, yoga, and riding a stationary bicycle. While you are doing those exercises, you need to keep your midsection contracted. When your core is tight, your risk of injury is much lower. You must also stretch before and after every workout.
